Fences make great neighbors. An ugly fence will make an extremely UNHAPPY neighbor. Check wooden fences for loose, splintered, or broken boards, posts, or rails. Check metal fences for loose or sharp edges that could cut someone.
Retaining walls or even decorative walls should be inspected to make sure everything is in its proper place. Retaining walls hold back dirt. They also control the direction of water runoff when it rains. Check the wood, concrete block, or metal from which the retaining wall is built. It only takes a minute to inspect the condition of the wall.
Chain link fences are notorious for snagging coats, sweaters, pants, and just any loose clothing. The fence is mass-produced and made to be cheap. Sharp edges might not be easy to find. Use an old towel or article of clothing and wave it over the fence. Pay attention to spots where it gets snagged or even ripped.
