Knowledge should be free.  Education should be free! Every month thousands of people search for free online courses but very few are available. After all, there isn’t much profit in giving away online courses. As the popularity of brick-and-mortar schools wanes, we believe that more and more free online courses will become available.

We are computer geeks and knowledge hounds. We decided over 10 years ago to create as many free educational websites as our time allowed. We have free math websites, grammar websites, and even websites to study for standardized tests like the driver’s license test, HiSET, SAT, and ASVAB.  We love knowledge. We love free! Free knowledge via free online courses is a wonderful thing!

Why don’t more websites offer free online courses? The answer should be obvious. Money! There’s no money in offering free products or services. Luckily for us all, there are several nonprofit organizations that firmly believe in the importance of education.  These generous donors have stepped forward to provide the financial resources needed to allow colleges and universities to offer free courses.

If you’re looking for free online courses, don’t overlook the obvious. Most of the free courses you’ll find online are not accredited. You won’t be able to become a nurse taking free online courses. You won’t be able to receive a Bachelor’s degree by completing courses online, no matter how high your grades are.  Reality is reality. Most free online courses are offered for self-improvement and to learn a new subject. If you absolutely need an accredited degree, you shouldn’t expect to be able to earn one online for free.

The courses listed on our site are offered by some of the best online education providers in the world. These include edX, Coursera, the Open University, OpenStax, and Alison. The educational institutions that offer these course include Harvard University, Oxford, UC Berkeley, UMass, MIT, Lumen Learning, and Carnegie Mellon.

Most free online course providers offer two options – free and paid. In most cases you can take the course free and gain a mind-full of knowledge. If you want a certificate to formally recognize your completion of the course, you’ll have to opt for the paid certificate.
