Your vehicle owner’s manual should show the location of your engine oil dipstick. In most newer vehicles the top of the stick is marked “Engine Oil”. There is no standard color of the various dipsticks located in the engine compartment. On one vehicle the top of the engine oil dipstick might be black and on another it might be yellow.
The engine oil dipstick should be marked. The lower end of the stick should show “low” and “full”. The wording may vary from vehicle to vehicle. Make sure the oil level is between low and full. On most (but not all) vehicles, it takes one quart of motor oil to fill the engine from low to full.
