Free Online Web Design Courses

If you’re considering a career as a web designer, you must first analyze your goals. Do you plan on being self-employed and creating websites for clients? Or do you intend to work on a team, perhaps for a large company? The type of courses you take will be determined by what you intend to do with your newly-acquired knowledge.

If you plan on becoming an all-inclusive web designer, you’ll need to wear many hats. Web design is just that. As a web designer, you would design the website and its necessary elements. The elements include the scripts, programming, possibly server-side scripts, forms, graphics, and countless other user interfaces. A true web designer simply designs a website in theory. Someone else would do the programming. Another person would handle the development of the site from beginning to end. Someone else would handle the graphics and multimedia elements. You might also need a social media expert to concentrate on social media interfaces.

In general, web design involves four tasks. These include design, development, content, and multimedia. For a large, complex website, each of these tasks might require 2 or more persons. A true web designer concentrates on the first task – design. You create the design of the website. Other team members handle the other tasks. If you’re a one-man show, you’ll need to learn how to do everything required for the development, content, and multimedia.
