Being an effective teacher requires a variety of skills but one of the most important is the ability to communicate effectively with students. This course will help you to discover why the features and functions of communication in the classroom are very important, and how they impact on each individual in the classroom.
The course begins by introducing you to how classroom communication serves a mixture of three purposes at once: content talk, procedural talk, and behavior control talk. You will further explore and understand the importance of these skills, and how communication affects each individual in the classroom.
In this course you will learn how to recognize different elements of communication, such as verbal, nonverbal and unintended. You will also learn about structures of participation and how to use classroom talk to stimulate student thinking.
